week 1 post one

3/6
The beginning of Rebirth magazine is going to
cover a majority of aspects in the music and today and the music from the past. My double page spread is going to resemble a style such as the one printed to the left. I will show a picture or a few on one side of the page and on the other page is an abundance of words from the interviewer and interviewee.

Even though for a music magazine the typical target audience is people between the age of 17-30 years old, there will always be an off topic article in each magazine new issue, to grab attention random attentions.
The genres of music that will be understood and challenged in Rebirth are punk, indie pop, psychadelic rock, classical, jazz, and blues. Learning an in depth history of the music and genres might motivate more people to follow their truest passions.

week 1 post 2

3/7
I myself am a musician and am in a psychedelic rock band playing original compositions. Having this skill helps me out a lot in producing a music magazine of my own because of my experience of being in a band and having a unique sound of your own. Many bands exist in the Indie pop scene, one thing they have in common is a sound because of the same use of pedal, guitars, and amps. Yet in other more sophisticated genres the pedals and amps used are being used to get a one of a kind sound.

In this photo you can see Jimi Hedrix playing his guitar the only he knows how and his sound is crafted around those pedals and foot switches on the floor. The Jimi Hendrix Experience had a fuzzy, warm, and piercing sound because of the size of the amps and the style of rock and roll being played.
Psychedelic rock is a genre that captures many of audiences because there is more of a free jam feeling happening, which have people in ahh and giving them more of a free feeling. This allows people to let go a little more like the band and really connect with anyone and everyone around them, breaking down barriers.

To the right is Eric Clapton and a very powerful amp, a  Marshall stack.

Rebirth magazine week 3 post 2

Target audience for most music magazines is around an median age of 30 and also captures the attention younger and developing people.
The demographics of the music industry are broad. Rolling Stone, for example, has around 150,000 subscribers globally, 58 percent of which are male. The median age is 32.

  • Vibe magazine’s target readership is mostly young, urban followers of hip-hop culture.
  •  Country Music magazine attracts country music fans, 25 to 45 years old, with an income of $75,000.
  •  Paste magazine attracts readers ages 25-35 who earn around $70,000 in annual income.

Most covers for music magazines are ones that catch the eye of the target audience by showing almost nudity and big fonts to talk about important topics.

With an original masthead designed by the late, great psychedelic artist Rick Griffin, stunning photography and illustration by luminaries including Annie Leibovitz and Ralph Steadman, and the work of stellar art directors, Rolling Stone’s covers have become as iconic as the stars that feature on them.

week 4

The main 2-page spread is covering a psychedelic rock band called The Greyt Adventure which I started myself alongside my drummer.
the greyt adventure by: Isaiah
1st question: Can you guys introduce yourselves
and what you do in the band?
The band: Yes certainly, I'm Micheal I play bass and sing;
I'm Isaiah i play guitar, keyboard, and lead vocals.
i go by the name of Alex and I play the drums.
Interviewer: What genre are you playing?
Alex: I'd describe what we play as more of interpretive
playing rather than a set genre, but mainly we are turned
onto 60s psychedelic rock music..
Isaiah: yes we jam and improvise making it diffferent most
of the times, it's only up for the listeners and viewers
interpretation.
Interviewer: Do you want to travel to other countries?
Micheal: I'm sure we will be all over the map, starting
for a dew months in our home country will be good
before we decide to play in places like Norway,
Sweden, Netherlands, and Germany.
Isaiah: we are going to spread the true wave of
music to all those accepting of what we share.
Interviewer: What are you working on right now?
Alex: as of right now we are still writing songs and
also recording an Album that should be done by next year.
Micheal: there a lot of great songs and once the record is done hopefully we can
start gaining a bigger and
stronger support base.  Bands aren't bands without fans
and fans aren't fans without bands.
Interviewer: How long have you all known each other?
How did you meet?
Isaiah: We've known Micheal now for a month or two, we were
introduced by our lead guitarist Julian, and
I've known Alex since my Junior year in high school.
Alex: It's really strange yet great that we are playing
together because the chemistry is there and all naturally.
Interviewer: What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you
have a set time each week in which you practice or
are rehearsals more spontaneous?
Isaiah: Rehearsals are usually 3 or 4 times a week at
someones house, usually micheals because he lives near the
beach. The songs are usually played differently each time
minus the backbone structure.
Interviewer: What's your ultimate direction for your band?

The Greyt Adventures direction for the meanwhile is to continue to play our music for those who choose to put their interest in a nonconforming genre.
As a 4 piece and looking to add more members, such as a pianist and organist.

Each member is only 17 years old and is already on their way towards shaping the culture that we know and may not like.

Rebirth Magazine Week 3 post 1

WEEK 3:

The magazine is going to contain interviews and articles about Independent artist, Album reviews, and Instruments that artists use and why.

 Independent Music:

Underground or indie music has never been so popular than in recent years, thanks to more inexpensive technologies, strong fan support, and websites such as iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, and Facebook. You can cover the growth of the indie scene, the hottest indie bands, the cross-over artists, hottest independent labels, and how to begin in indie recording.

Cosmo Pyke is an upcoming Independent 18 year-old songwriter from London, the band is a two piece but there music captures something much greater. The double spread would contain an interview pertaining to existential and musical questions.

 Album Reviews

Some conscious music enthusiasts do take time to read album reviews before they buy one. Even producers consider initial critic reviews and use them to either move the release of the entire album to later date. Single or album reviews can make or break someone else’s career. If you have the knack for music, be one of the most honest critics in the industry.
This album can be reviewed and critiqued by critics and those opinions can be published if they are fair and unbiased. The Rolling Stones haven't released anything in eons so this album review is important to rock and roll lovers. However, the Stones’ new album is as introspective as we can expect them to get in 2016—even if it they are playing songs that are nearly as old as they are. Blue & Lonesome is a covers collection that pays tribute to the post-war Chicago blues that first got the Stones rolling and inspired their name.

 Instruments

Music lovers also count on magazines for great instruments to buy, either for leisure or work. You can cover all types of instruments and brands, review products, talk about where to get them, share new innovations or technology, or showcase the hottest instruments used by the biggest bands and artists.
To the left, the bassist for The Beatles, Paul McCartney is seen holding the bass he always used while performing. A Hoffner bass and the qualities and preference would be discussed in the magazine.
To the right we can see John Lennon hold a Rickenbacker guitar and for some reason was a very comfortable and affordable guitar for Lennon back in those days. The history and the quality of the guitar will be discussed and hopefully understood by musicians.
